J. Charles Hopkins, a 32-year-old Black/African American male from Chester, Pennsylvania, was killed on August 30, 2016, in a shooting that unfolded while he was driving through the city’s West End. What began as an ordinary trip along Third Street turned violent when gunfire struck Hopkins as he was behind the wheel of a red 2005 Volvo. After he was shot, the vehicle continued out of control and crashed into the wall of Thomas M. Thomas Memorial Presbyterian Church.
