Dalia Sabae, a 28-year-old woman of Egyptian ethnicity, was tragically killed in her Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, home on November 10, 2016. At the time of her death, she was pregnant with a son. The events that led to her death began when police were called to her residence for a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, two Canonsburg police officers were ambushed by Michael Cwiklinski, Sabae's estranged husband. Officer Scott Bashioum was fatally shot, and another officer, James Saieva, was wounded. Following the ambush, Cwiklinski shot and killed Sabae before taking his own life.
Prior to the fatal incident, Sabae had sought protection from her husband. She had obtained a Protection from Abuse Order against Cwiklinski. In the wake of the tragedy, the community came together to remember Dalia Sabae and to raise awareness about domestic violence. A vigil was held in her honor, and a memorial grew outside her home with teddy bears, balloons, and candles.
