Brandon Smith, a 20-year-old male from Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, tragically died on January 18, 2017, from multiple gunshot wounds. He was found outside a residence at 185 W. Church Street in Nanticoke around 2 a.m. According to his mother, Brandon had gone outside after texting on his phone and returned yelling "they shot me" before collapsing. He was pronounced dead at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center at 3 a.m.
The investigation revealed that Brandon was involved in a
drug-related incident. Antoine William McNeal, a 32-year-old man from Wilkes-Barre, was arrested and charged with Brandon's murder. McNeal was found hiding in an apartment with six marijuana plants, and it was determined that Brandon was shot inside his mother's van. Wakeelah Nimat Moore, McNeal's girlfriend, was also arrested for hindering apprehension and drug offenses.
McNeal was arraigned and held without bail at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility. The case highlighted the dangers of drug-related activities and the tragic consequences that can result from such incidents.
Brandon Smith was remembered fondly by his family and friends for his warm smile, huge heart, and passion for basketball, animals, and children. His passing left a significant void in the lives of those who knew him.
