In the early morning hours of June 25, 2018, the life of 33-year-old John Jay Schmoock, Jr. was tragically cut short in his Bethlehem, Pennsylvania home. Bethlehem police discovered Mr. Schmoock after being called for a welfare check at his residence shortly before 3:30 a.m. Inside, they found him deceased from what was later determined to be multiple gunshot wounds.
The Northampton County Coroner's Office subsequently ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation quickly focused on his roommate, 30-year-old Sean Ferry, who was not present at the scene, and his vehicle was also missing. The search for Ferry, however, did not last long. Authorities located him in a nearby apartment building, where he was found deceased in a hallway. The coroner determined that Ferry had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. Police indicated that a love triangle was at the root of the tragic events that transpired. With the suspect in the homicide also deceased, the investigation was concluded, and police assured the public that there was no ongoing threat.
