In the late hours of a Monday evening in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, the life of Thomas Johnson, a 45-year-old African American male, was tragically cut short. On May 18, 2020, in the Mon View Heights apartment complex, Johnson was fatally shot, sustaining gunshot wounds to his face and head. Police were called to the scene on Midway Drive at approximately 11:15 p.m. following reports of gunfire, where they discovered Johnson in a yard near one of the apartment buildings.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect, Daymond 'Day Day' Wiggins, a 37-year-old resident of the same apartment complex. According to witnesses, Johnson, who was also known by the nickname 'T Raw,' was in an area of the complex referred to as 'the tunnel' when Wiggins allegedly approached him and opened fire. An arrest warrant was issued for Wiggins, charging him with criminal homicide and a firearms violation, as a prior aggravated assault conviction prohibited him from legally possessing a firearm.
Following the issuance of the warrant, a search for Wiggins ensued. More than a month after the shooting, on June 20, 2020, he was apprehended by the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office in Indiana during a traffic stop at a convenience store. Wiggins was taken into custody without incident and held in the LaPorte County Jail as he awaited extradition back to Pennsylvania to face the charges against him. At the time of his arrest, authorities had not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting. There have been no further online reports concerning a trial or conviction in this case.
