On the evening of December 3, 2020, a 14-year-old Black male named Tahmair M. Timms was fatally shot in Philadelphia. The incident occurred around 5:12 p.m. when police responded to reports of gunfire on the 5900 block of Mascher Street in the city's Olney section. Officers discovered Tahmair behind a residence on the 5800 block of Howard Street, suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest and back.
They rushed him to Albert Einstein Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
Tahmair, a resident of Allengrove Street, was a promising young athlete known for his competitive spirit on the basketball court and football field. His family believes he was not the intended target of the shooting. In an effort to escape the gun violence in Philadelphia, his mother had moved the family to a gated community in Florida just nine months prior. Tahmair and his family had returned to Philadelphia for Thanksgiving, and he had asked to extend his stay to spend more time with his father.
The investigation into Tahmair's death is ongoing, and as of now, it remains an unsolved case. No arrests have been made, and a weapon has not been recovered. The Philadelphia Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward, and a $20,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his murder.
