On a cold December evening in Detroit, the life of 36-year-old Raymond Singleton Jr. was tragically cut short. On December 3, 2010, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Singleton was fatally shot on the 14000 block of Winthrop Street, in a neighborhood on the city's west side. A devoted father of five, his sudden and violent death left a void in the lives of his children and family.
The investigation into the shooting led police to identify a 17-year-old, Mendo Love, as the gunman.
Love was subsequently arrested and taken into custody for his role in the homicide. However, the tragic story did not end with his capture. Surveillance footage from the scene revealed that Love did not act alone. A second individual was present, serving as the getaway driver, and this person managed to escape and remain unidentified.
In the wake of the shooting, as the family grappled with their loss, the search for the second suspect continued. More than a year later, in February 2012, Singleton's family made a public appeal for help, hoping that someone in the community would come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the getaway driver. Despite the capture of the shooter, the family's quest for full closure was hampered by the fact that one of the individuals responsible for Raymond's death was still at large. Authorities announced a reward for any information that would help them identify and apprehend the driver. While Mendo Love was in custody, it was reported that he was not cooperating with the police in identifying his accomplice.
