On May 12, 2021, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, 81-year-old Caucasian female Margaret Maxine Krietzer Kahrer was found deceased in her residence on Dewey Avenue. Born on November 25, 1939, in New Castle to Florintine and Catherine Krietzer, Margaret was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and crafting blankets. She was survived by her children, Bobbyjoe A. Esposito, John D. Esposito, and Scott M. Esposito, as well as two sisters, nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Louis Esposito and Frederick Kahrer, along with other family members.
Authorities responded to reports of a shooting involving neighbors on Dewey Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Kevin Ross, who had been shot in the chest, receiving assistance from neighbors. Ross was transported to the hospital for treatment. Further investigation led officers to the duplex where they found Margaret Kahrer deceased. In the adjoining unit, they discovered the body of 78-year-old Caucasian male John Charles Micco, who had also been fatally shot.
Law enforcement identified 59-year-old Louis Esposito, Margaret Kahrer's son, as the primary suspect. Esposito was located in the basement of the duplex and reportedly confessed to shooting his mother, John Micco, and Kevin Ross. Following his arrest, Esposito attempted to escape by pulling a fire alarm at the police station but was quickly apprehended. He was charged with two counts of criminal homicide, one count of attempted homicide, and one count of attempted escape.
The tragic incident shocked the local community, leading to an outpouring of grief and condolences for the victims. Margaret Kahrer was remembered for her dedication to her family and her passion for crafts. Funeral services were held on May 17, 2021, at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, followed by burial in Graceland Cemetery.
