In the quiet community of McDonald, Pennsylvania, a tragic event unfolded on Monday, May 24, 2021, ending the life of 57-year-old Suzanne Devos Faingnaert. A graduate of Ft. Cherry High School, she was known for her love of cooking, baking, and photography. She worked as a dental surgical assistant and had previously driven a school bus for the South Fayette School District for 15 years. Her life was marked by her enjoyment of traveling, especially to the western United States and the Rockies, and the cherished time she spent with her grandchildren.
On that Monday evening, a little after 8 p.m., a grim discovery was made at a home on Valley Street. Inside, three individuals were found deceased from gunshot wounds in what was determined to be a double homicide and suicide. The victims were Suzanne Faingnaert and her 27-year-old daughter, Christina Garove. The third individual was identified as 27-year-old James Garove, Christina's ex-husband.
The investigation revealed a turbulent history between Christina and James Garove. Records show that Christina had previously sought a protection from abuse order against him in September of 2020, but her request was denied. In her petition, she described an incident where an argument escalated to him allegedly hitting her in the mouth. Family members indicated that the couple had an on-and-off relationship and that James had been living intermittently at the Valley Street apartment where the shooting occurred.
On the day of the incident, James Garove was reportedly at the apartment to gather his belongings. Christina had gone to the residence to see what he was taking, and it was during this time that the situation escalated. Family members stated that Christina had called her mother, Suzanne, to come over to the apartment. It was there that James Garove shot and killed both his ex-wife and her mother before turning the gun on himself. The couple's six-year-old son was not present at the time of the shooting.
