On May 2, 2022, 9-year-old Nelson Nelly Belly Tini, a young boy from Newtown, PA, tragically lost his life. Nelson, along with his older brother Jeffrey Tini, aged 13, were shot and killed by their mother, Trinh Nguyen, inside their home in Upper Makefield Township. Trinh Nguyen, 40, also attempted to shoot a neighbor but the gun malfunctioned. Following the murders, Nguyen fled to New Jersey to obtain narcotics and attempted to take her own life.
She was later found in her minivan and taken into custody.
The investigation revealed that Nguyen had planned the killings at least a week in advance. She left a handwritten will and a note inside her car, detailing her intentions and blaming others for the problems in her life, including the imminent eviction from her home. Nguyen eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. She was sentenced to two life terms without the possibility of parole for the murders and received a maximum sentence of 10 to 20 years for the attempted murder of the neighbor.
