The incident started when Taylor, 54, engaged in a domestic altercation with his wife, which escalated to him shooting her at their residence on Route 118. After fleeing the scene, Taylor drove to his sister Andrea Meek's home on Route 239, where he shot her. He then stole an all-terrain vehicle and continued his shooting spree, hitting multiple houses and vehicles along the way. Eventually, Taylor encountered Jerry Zehring and shot him as well. When state troopers arrived at the scene, Taylor opened fire on them, leading to an exchange of gunfire that resulted in Taylor's death.
The Pennsylvania State Troopers Association praised the quick thinking and training of the troopers involved, noting that their actions likely prevented further loss of life. The troopers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation. The investigation included an examination of Taylor's home, where additional weapons were found, though this was considered typical for the remote, hunting-heavy area.
