Railroad Detective Edward B. Stanton, age 24, was shot and killed on September 5, 1908, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a male of unknown ethnicity. Detective Stanton was killed while attempting to interrupt several men who were trying to break into a boxcar near the Davenport Avenue Station. When he fired a warning shot into the air, one of the men turned around and shot him. He was taken to Lakeside Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds while undergoing surgery.
