Charles Duke Brewer, a 60-year-old man from West Union, Ohio, tragically passed away on June 27, 2014. He was born on September 8, 1953, in Adams County, Ohio, to Charles R Brewer and the late Betty June Roush. Brewer worked in construction and was well-known in his community. He is survived by his two daughters, Billie Jo Goodwin and Michelle Brewer, and two sons, Justin Brewer and Ryan Stevenson. He also leaves behind three granddaughters and a grandson.
The circumstances surrounding Brewer's death were the result of a violent altercation. Roddy Shane Tolle, a 43-year-old man, was charged with the murder of Charles Brewer. On the day of the incident, Tolle had an argument with Brewer at Brewer's residence on Island Creek Road in Monroe Township. After leaving Brewer's home, Tolle attempted to procure a weapon from several people, including relatives of Brewer. Eventually, Tolle obtained a weapon and returned to Brewer's home, where he fatally shot Brewer.
Tolle was arrested and charged with multiple counts, including aggravated murder, murder, murder by felonious assault, having a weapon under disability, and tampering with evidence. During the trial, multiple witnesses testified that Tolle had threatened to kill Brewer earlier in the day. Tolle was found competent to stand trial despite initially pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. He was later sentenced to 31 years to life in prison for the aggravated murder of Charles Brewer.
