Ballistic tests confirmed that the loaded 9mm handgun found on him was the same weapon used in the killings. DNA evidence collected from the scene also matched Sparks-Henderson. He later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including aggravated murder, and was sentenced to five consecutive life prison terms.

During Sparks-Henderson's sentencing, Sherita's brother, Delray Johnson, attempted to attack him in the courtroom but was restrained by sheriff's deputies.
