On December 22, 2014, Samantha N. Carpenter, a 10-year-old girl from New Paris, Ohio, tragically lost her life in a domestic violence-related shooting incident. Samantha's mother, Catherine Gessman, aged 45, was also shot but survived and was treated at a hospital. The suspect, Brian Harleman, aged 43, who was Gessman's former boyfriend, forced his way into the residence where he had previously lived with Gessman and Carpenter.
