On July 8, 2015, 20-year-old Arthur Morris was found deceased in a residence located in the 2900 block of Feltz Avenue in Westwood, Cincinnati. A family member discovered Morris's body and another man who had been shot in the neck; the latter was transported to UC Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Authorities were alerted to the scene around 7:30 p.m.
following a 911 call reporting a home invasion robbery.
In the immediate aftermath, Cincinnati police initiated an investigation into the incident. Early on July 10, 2015, officers arrested 20-year-old Jvontae Gurley, charging him with murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting that resulted in the death of Arthur Morris and the injury of the second victim. Gurley was subsequently held at the Hamilton County Justice Center pending further legal proceedings.
Further developments in the case led to the arrest of 46-year-old Alfonzo McHatten on August 25, 2015. McHatten faced charges of murder and attempted murder related to the same home invasion. Authorities alleged that McHatten, along with Gurley, was involved in the fatal shooting of Arthur Morris and the wounding of the other individual. Following his arrest, McHatten's bond was set at $1.75 million.
