Charles Flagg, a 33-year-old African American man, was fatally shot on October 18, 2015, outside the Ladies and Gentlemen Sports Bar in Springfield Township, Ohio. Flagg was shot in the abdomen and later died at UC Medical Center. Witnesses described the shooter as a black man about 6 feet 4 inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, who fled the scene in a dark-colored van.
The incident was captured on security cameras, but the footage was too dark to clearly identify the shooter.
Michael Williams was arrested and charged with murder in connection to the shooting, but investigators believe he did not pull the trigger. Williams was convicted and is currently in prison, but the case remains open as authorities continue to search for the actual shooter.
Flagg's mother, Carlnette Flagg-Miles, has been vocal about seeking justice for her son. She has worked with Mothers Against Gun Violence and continues to hold annual vigils at the site of her son's death. Despite the conviction of Williams, the case remains unsolved, and Flagg-Miles holds hope that the true perpetrator will be brought to justice.
The Springfield Township Police Department has stated that they currently have no active leads in the case, but they continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward. The investigation remains open, and the family continues to seek closure.
