On March 9, 2016, 22-year-old Jose Reyes, a male of Hispanic ethnicity, was tragically shot and killed in Cleveland, Ohio. Jose was leaving work at an auto shop on West 43rd Street when he was attacked. His 15-year-old nephew, Efrain Garcia, Jr., was with him at the time. As Jose remained in the driver's seat of his car, Efrain stepped out to check the battery. A masked man approached the car and fired multiple shots, killing Jose and injuring Efrain in the leg.
