On June 5, 2016, Juan Mitchell Jr, a 24-year-old African American man from Cleveland, OH, was fatally shot outside the Iron City Café on W. 14th Street and Jennings Avenue. Mitchell was exiting the bar with a friend, Tarez Steele, when they were both shot. While Steele survived and required surgery for his injuries, Mitchell tragically died at the scene.
