Ramone Royles, a 36-year-old man from Cincinnati, OH, was tragically shot and killed on August 28, 2016, in the Northside neighborhood. He was found on the 1300 block of Knowlton Street just after 1 a.m. and was later pronounced dead at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Following an investigation, Damon Lackey, a 23-year-old man from Colerain Township,
was arrested in connection with Royles' death. Lackey was charged with murder and was believed to be the triggerman in the fatal shooting. He had a prior criminal record, having been released from prison in April 2016 after serving a five-year sentence for felonious assault. During his trial for the assault case, Lackey had initially faced two counts of felonious assault but pleaded guilty to one count.
The case against Lackey proceeded, and a grand jury was expected to report on his charges by September 19, 2016. The arrest brought some closure to the investigation, but the loss of Ramone Royles left a lasting impact on his family and the community.
