On December 4, 2016, Bernard Randy Erby, a 46-year-old Black male from Columbus, OH, was found unresponsive in the front yard of a residence on Republic Avenue. He had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot and seeing a small car leaving the area shortly after. Despite the initial investigation, no suspects have been identified, and the case remains unsolved.
