Thomas E. Sams, a 34-year-old male resident of Akron, Ohio, tragically passed away on March 17, 2017. He was involved in a fatal shootout on the front porch of a home on Lakeland Avenue in Copley, Ohio. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. when police responded to a report of gunshots. Sams was found lying on the porch with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other individual involved, Delamon A.
Marshall, 41, of Akron, was also found wounded and later hospitalized.
Marshall was later indicted on a first-degree felony charge of involuntary manslaughter in Summit County Common Pleas Court, along with a felony charge of possessing weapons under disability. Federal firearms charges were also filed against him, and he eventually pleaded guilty in federal court to two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as two counts of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Marshall was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his involvement in the incident.
The shootout was reportedly over a woman, and it remains unclear who fired the first shot. The tragic event left Sams' family and friends devastated, and he is remembered fondly by his loved ones.
