On April 30, 2012, the vibrant life of 20-year-old Michael Bostick, an African American male from Detroit, Michigan, came to a tragic and violent end in a crime that shook the local community. The events unfolding around this date involved a brutal double homicide that also claimed the life of Kyra Jordan and left a third victim, Lester Lewis, critically injured but miraculously able to escape.
The incident began at a home on Cruse Street near Fenkell and Schaefer in Detroit, where the victims were forcibly taken against their will, marking the start of a harrowing ordeal involving kidnapping, torture, and ultimately murder.
According to investigation reports and court records, the victims were held captive and subjected to severe violence before being forced into the trunk of a car. The perpetrators then drove the vehicle to the 12000 block of Chapel Street near Glendale Avenue. It was there that the violence escalated to its final, lethal stage. Michael Bostick suffered fatal gunshot wounds, and in an attempt to destroy evidence and hinder identification, the car was set ablaze with the victims inside. The fire caused such extensive damage that dental records were later required to positively identify Kyra Jordan, and Bostick suffered significant thermal injuries. Lester Lewis, who had been shot in the face, managed to escape the trunk of the burning vehicle, fleeing to safety and later providing crucial testimony that would help unravel the case.
Law enforcement officers from the Detroit Police Department launched a homicide investigation that eventually led to the identification and arrest of several suspects believed to be involved in the kidnapping and slaying. The investigation pointed to a group of individuals who played various roles in the crime. Among them were Keith Anthony Williams, Ronald Kareem Seabrooks, Jason Lamar Miller, Demar Payne, and Terrance Dwight Griggs. Authorities described the crime as a coordinated effort, with Williams alleged to be a shooter and mastermind behind the violent sequence of events.
The legal proceedings that followed resulted in multiple convictions and lengthy prison sentences. Ronald Kareem Seabrooks was tried and convicted by a jury on charges including first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, assault with intent to murder, torture, and unlawful imprisonment. Jason Lamar Miller underwent a bench trial where he was found guilty of second-degree murder, felony murder, and torture, also receiving a life sentence. Demar Payne, who had initially entered a plea agreement to testify but later attempted to withdraw it, was sentenced to life in prison for murder convictions and 25 to 50 years for second-degree murder. Terrance Dwight Griggs pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and weapons charges in exchange for his testimony against the other defendants.
