Dakota Spurlock, a 24-year-old man from Clermont County, was found dead in a field near New Market, Highland County, Ohio, on February 28, 2018. Spurlock's body had sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. The investigation revealed that Spurlock had a criminal record, including drug crimes and firearm violations.
Three men were indicted for their involvement in Spurlock's death. Stoney James Behler, 37, Steve A.
Davis, 40, and John Daniel Disney, 39, were each charged with involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse. Behler was also charged with having weapons under disability. According to the indictment, Spurlock was killed in Clermont County and then transported to Highland County, where his body was dumped in the field.
Davis pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence and agreed to testify against his co-defendants. Behler and Disney were awaiting trial at the time. The investigation suggested that the incident was related to a drug deal gone wrong. Behler allegedly shot Spurlock during an altercation over drugs and money.
The case remains under investigation, and Davis was believed to be at large in the Clermont County area at the time of the indictments. The motive for Spurlock's murder has not been disclosed by the authorities.
