Martin R. Harris, a 33-year-old male from Columbus, OH, tragically lost his life on May 24, 2018, due to gunshot wounds sustained during a home invasion. Harris was found critically injured at the Colonial Arms Apartment Complex on Berwick Arms Place and was later pronounced dead at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center. The incident occurred when Harris and another individual were confronted by Demitrious D.
McKnight, 22, and an unidentified accomplice who forcibly entered the apartment demanding drugs and money.
During the confrontation, Harris and McKnight exchanged gunfire, resulting in Harris being struck twice and succumbing to his injuries. McKnight was also shot and detained by a security guard as he attempted to flee the scene. Harris did not reside in the apartment but was present to sell drugs. McKnight was subsequently charged with murder and aggravated burglary.
The investigation revealed that McKnight and his accomplice broke into the apartment as part of a robbery attempt related to drug activity. While McKnight was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years, the second suspect remains unidentified and at large.
