Jason Drummond, a 24-year-old male from Brookfield, OH, tragically died on July 27, 2018, after being shot in the back of the head while driving along Warren Sharon Road. Drummond was driving when he was shot, and despite being taken to Sharon Regional Medical Center and later transferred to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Drummond's death led to the arrest of Joseph S. Rosario, a 25-year-old male from Brookfield.
Rosario was charged with murder, carrying a concealed weapon, and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. According to police reports, Rosario had learned about a robbery committed by Drummond and decided to take matters into his own hands. He stopped his car, got out, and started shooting at Drummond's vehicle.
Rosario fled the state after the shooting, but authorities eventually tracked him down and arrested him in New York City in August 2020. After a series of legal maneuvers, Rosario was extradited back to Ohio and booked into Trumbull County jail in October 2020. In May 2021, Rosario pleaded guilty to reduced charges of involuntary manslaughter with a gun specification and was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
The case highlighted the tireless efforts of Brookfield Detective Sgt. Aaron Kasiewicz, who played a crucial role in bringing Rosario to justice. Drummond's family, particularly his mother Stacey Culp Rasberry, expressed their grief and relief after the sentencing, though they acknowledged that no sentence could bring back their loved one.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of violence and the importance of justice for the victims and their families.
