A 54-year-old man from Mexico, Celerino Galvan-Martinez, was killed in a tragic car crash in the early morning hours of July 28, 2024. The incident occurred on Interstate 75 near 11 Mile Road in Royal Oak, Michigan. Galvan-Martinez was a passenger in a vehicle traveling with his family, en route to the airport for an early morning flight back to Mexico after visiting relatives in Michigan.
The vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver, identified as 29-year-old Adam Quillen, who was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. The head-on collision resulted in the immediate deaths of three of the four occupants in the family's vehicle. In addition to Celerino Galvan-Martinez, his 34-year-old son, Suriel Galvan-Argüello of Troy, and his 71-year-old father-in-law, Antonio Martinez-Saldivar, also from Mexico, were killed. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, Adam Quillen, also died in the crash.
A fourth occupant of the family’s vehicle, the wife of Suriel Galvan-Argüello, survived the crash but sustained severe injuries. Michigan State Police, along with Royal Oak Police and the Royal Oak Fire Department, responded to the scene. An investigation into the crash was initiated. As the driver responsible for the collision also perished in the incident, there have been no arrests made, and authorities are not searching for any suspects.
