Jason Calhoun, a 41-year-old man from Canton, OH, tragically passed away on June 27, 2019. He was the bar manager at Brick City Lounge in Canton Township. On the night of his death, a fight broke out at the bar, and after being asked to leave, Deny King, a 26-year-old man, returned to the bar multiple times. Eventually, King shot Calhoun twice after being denied entry for the third time.
Both bullets exited Calhoun's body, and another man at the bar was also wounded but survived.
King was later arrested and charged with aggravated murder and felonious assault. During the trial, King claimed he shot Calhoun in defense of another person, Milan Carr, whom he believed was in danger. However, no witnesses testified that Calhoun displayed a weapon, and video surveillance did not show any gun in Calhoun's possession. The jury found King guilty on all charges, and he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

King's defense argued that he feared for Carr's safety and believed gunshots had been fired at him before he returned to the bar. However, the prosecution successfully argued that there was no legal basis for King's claim, as Carr was not even in the bar at the time.
