Clarence Brown III, a 33-year-old African American man from Dayton, Ohio, tragically lost his life on December 5, 2019. He was fatally shot outside the Save Food Super Market on Germantown Street in Dayton. The incident occurred just hours after another shooting at Rick’s Jazz Lab, where Brandon Harris was killed and another man was injured. Both shootings were committed by Christopher Leon Smith, who was later convicted of the murders.
Smith was indicted on multiple charges, including
four counts of murder, six counts of felonious assault, and having weapons under disability. After a trial, Smith was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for at least 38 years. The investigation involved interviewing multiple witnesses, obtaining surveillance videos, and comparing ballistic information to identify the shooter.
