In 1982, a young college student named Walter Forbes found his life irrevocably altered by a series of events that began with him breaking up a bar fight in his home state of Michigan. The day after the fight, one of the men involved, Dennis Hall, retaliated by shooting Forbes. Shortly after, on July 12, 1982, Hall was found dead in a fire that was determined to be arson.
