Angelo Catala, a 24-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from Cleveland, OH, tragically passed away on October 21, 2020. Catala was involved in a car accident early that morning, which led to a confrontation in the parking lot of Nunzio's Pizzeria on Lorain Avenue. During this confrontation, the other driver, later identified as 30-year-old Harold Williams III, pulled out a gun and shot Catala, resulting in his death.
Following the incident, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for
Williams, charging him with murder. Catala's family, devastated by the loss, called for justice and urged anyone with information about Williams' whereabouts to come forward. Catala was known as the protector of his family and had four young children.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Williams attempted to evade capture by robbing a convenience store and shooting at a cashier three days later. He was eventually apprehended and charged with multiple offenses, including murder, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault. In February 2023, Williams was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 27 years.
The case, State v. Williams, saw Williams appealing his convictions, but the court affirmed the life sentence, citing the severity of his actions and the impact on Catala's family. The court's decision brought some measure of closure to Catala's loved ones, who continue to seek justice for their beloved family member.
