Jadea Yarteese Love Jarvis, a 25-year-old African American woman from Orrville, Ohio, tragically passed away on January 6, 2021. She was a mother of two young children, Zaivion and Jaeleona Crenshaw. Jadea had endured years of mental, emotional, and physical abuse at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, Kenneth Crenshaw. Despite her attempts to leave the abusive relationship, she often returned due to fear for her life.
On the day of her death, Kenneth Crenshaw, who was 33 years old at the time, stole a firearm from a neighbor and went to Jadea's apartment. After a brief altercation with her friend who answered the door, Crenshaw chased Jadea outside and shot at her, missing her but causing her to fall to the ground. He then repeatedly kicked, punched, and hit her with the gun. Jadea was found in a pool of blood by Orrville police officers who responded to the scene. During the incident, Crenshaw shouted at the officers to "shoot me!" and was eventually shot in the arm by the police. He was arrested and charged with aggravated murder.
Kenneth Crenshaw pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 34 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducted a thorough investigation into the incident. The three Orrville police officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
Jadea's death was a tragic end to a life marked by struggle and resilience. Her family and friends continue to remember her and honor her memory.
