Angela Combs, a 41-year-old woman from Middletown, Ohio, tragically lost her life on January 31, 2021. She was shot in an apartment in the 3100 block of Wilbraham Road around 9 p.m. The incident occurred when three armed suspects arrived at her residence, allegedly seeking payment of a $60 marijuana debt. As Combs attempted to close the door, one of the suspects fired through the door, striking her. She was immediately transported to Atrium Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Following the incident, Middletown police identified three suspects involved in the shooting. Karlos Chase Philpot, an 18-year-old from Madison Township, and a 17-year-old juvenile were charged with murder and felonious assault. Philpot was taken into custody and held at the Middletown City Jail, while the juvenile was detained at the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center. The investigation revealed that the suspects had come to the residence armed and wearing masks.

The case drew significant attention, and the legal proceedings that followed were extensive. Philpot eventually pleaded guilty to murder and received a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 15 years. The juvenile co-defendants, Timathy Rhodus and Elliot Shepherd II, were also tried as adults. Rhodus pleaded guilty to murder and received a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 16 years. Shepherd pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and received a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
