Heidi Renee Moon, a 43-year-old woman from Akron, Ohio, tragically lost her life on January 31, 2022, as a result of domestic violence. Born on July 23, 1978, Heidi was known for her infectious smile and generous heart. She was a fierce protector of her family and had a strong presence in the lives of those who knew her.
On the day of her death, Heidi met with a private investigator because she believed her ex-boyfriend, Nick Mima, had placed a tracking device in her car.
The investigator found an Apple AirTag in her car, confirming Heidi's suspicions. Despite the evidence, Heidi was hesitant to involve the police, fearing it would provoke Mima. Unfortunately, later that day, Mima shot Heidi outside her home on Edwin Avenue in Akron. Mima then turned the gun on himself and died the following day in the hospital.
Heidi's family believes she was emotionally abused by Mima, who continued to stay at her home even after their breakup. Although there were no prior domestic-related police reports between Heidi and Mima, her sister, Teresa Gajkowski, shared their story to raise awareness about the dangers of emotional abuse and stalking.
The tragic incident has left Heidi's family and friends devastated, but they hope that by sharing her story, they can help prevent similar tragedies from happening to others.
