Mary Ann McGuire, a 67-year-old woman from Lisbon, Ohio, tragically died on March 18, 2022. She was born on May 15, 1954, in Salem, Ohio, and lived her entire life in the area. Mary Ann was a dedicated nurse who worked at Salem Regional Medical Center for many years before retiring in May 2021. She continued to work part-time at Copeland Oaks Crandall Medical Center until her death. Mary Ann was also an active member of the New Lebanon United Presbyterian Church and enjoyed outdoor activities such as biking, running, hiking, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
On the day of her death, Mary Ann was shot by Justin Givens, a 28-year-old man from Salineville, Ohio. Givens was convicted of murder and sentenced to 23 years and one month to life in prison. The court found that Givens shot Mary Ann on her property on Depot Road in Lisbon. The sentencing included consecutive sentences for multiple charges, including grand theft of a firearm, tampering with evidence, aggravated possession of drugs, and endangering children. Judge Megan Bickerton noted the lack of remorse shown by Givens during the trial.
Mary Ann McGuire's family described her as a selfless, loving, and inspiring person who cared deeply for her family, friends, and patients. Her daughter, Alyssa McGuire, expressed that while Givens took her mother from this world, Mary Ann's memory and love would always be with them. The family's grief was evident during the trial, and they hoped for some sign of remorse from Givens, which never came.
The case against Justin Givens also included charges from an unrelated case, and he had other outstanding criminal cases in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court. Despite the tragic loss, Mary Ann's family continues to cherish her memory and the impact she had on their lives.
