On April 21, 2013, violence erupted on the streets of Detroit, Michigan, claiming the life of 48-year-old Randy Blunt, a Black male resident of the city. The incident occurred in the 20000 block of Ferguson Street, a residential area on the city's west side. On that spring Sunday, Blunt was fatally shot, adding his name to a growing list of homicide victims in a year that saw the city struggling with significant challenges in public safety.
Following the shooting, local authorities
launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Despite efforts by the Detroit Police Department to gather leads, the case quickly went cold. No immediate arrests were made, and investigators were unable to identify a motive or track down the individual or individuals responsible for the killing. The police file listed the suspect information as unknown, leaving the case unresolved as the weeks turned into years.
Friends and family gathered to mourn the loss of Mr. Blunt shortly after the tragedy. A visitation was held at the O. H. Pye, III Funeral Home on Plymouth Road, followed by a funeral service the next morning at the Abyssinian Baptist Church on Grand River Avenue. Loved ones paid their final respects to a man whose life was cut short, while the search for justice continued in the background. To this day, the homicide remains classified as unsolved, with no suspects in custody and no convictions recorded in connection with his murder.
