Daeshawn Simington, a 25-year-old male from Columbus, Ohio, tragically lost his life on October 4, 2022. He was fatally shot during a home invasion robbery at the Skyview Townhomes on East Morrill Avenue. Simington was inside the apartment when two armed men, Earnest Hall and William Smith Jr., forced their way in and demanded everyone to lie on the floor. During the incident, Simington managed to return fire, striking Hall, but he sustained multiple gunshot wounds and later succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, Hall and Smith were arrested and charged with murder and aggravated burglary. Hall was found with a red sweatshirt near the scene, which was identified by one of the victims. Smith took a plea deal and was sentenced to a minimum of 17 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated robbery. Hall's case is still ongoing, and he has pleaded guilty to robbery, felonious assault, and murder.

In addition to Hall and Smith, a third suspect, 19-year-old Tyreese Fields, was later arrested and charged with murder for his involvement in the crime. Fields is currently awaiting trial.

Simington's death has deeply affected his family and friends. His mother, Michelle Collins, and brother, Kenneth Jones, have publicly shared their grief and the impact his loss has had on his two young daughters, ages 5 and 8. Despite the pain, they remember Simington's loving and trusting nature, which endeared him to everyone he met.

The investigation into Simington's death continues as authorities work to ensure justice for the young man and his family.
