On the evening of June 1, 2013, a trip to a local liquor store in Detroit, Michigan, turned fatal for 25-year-old Jamiall Jameson. An altercation erupted inside the Liberty Liquor Store I, located at 4513 Van Dyke, that ultimately led to his death. Jamiall Jameson was an African American male.
The incident began when Herbert Dewey Baldridge and his cousin, Billy Baldridge, entered the store. An argument between Herbert Baldridge and Jameson quickly escalated into a physical fight. Surveillance footage from the store reportedly showed Herbert Baldridge throwing the first punch. Billy Baldridge then joined in, and the two cousins continued to assault Jameson until the store owner intervened, stating he was calling the police.
Following the store owner's intervention, the Baldridge cousins fled the scene. The case was initially listed as an unsolved murder in some databases. However, an investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of Herbert Dewey Baldridge.
Herbert Dewey Baldridge was subsequently charged and stood trial for the murder of Jamiall Jameson. A jury convicted him of second-degree murder. For this crime, he was sentenced to a term of 300 to 600 months in prison. His conviction was later upheld on appeal.
