On December 25, 1929, in Germanton, North Carolina, a tragic event unfolded that would become known as the Lawson family massacre. James Lawson, a four-year-old boy, was one of the victims. His father, Charles Davis Lawson, a 43-year-old sharecropper, murdered his wife, Fannie Lawson, and six of their seven children before taking his own life. The only survivor was their eldest son, 19-year-old Arthur Lawson, who was sent on an errand just before the crime.
