Benita Diane McMillan, a 26-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on November 23, 2011, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She was found shot to death alongside her cousin, Tierra Nicole Underwood, 29, outside the back door of an apartment at 209 Melvin Court. The incident occurred around 9 p.m., and it was later determined that both women were victims of domestic violence.
The investigation led to the arrest of Benita's boyfriend, Jermaine Lamar Johnson, 24, who was
charged with two counts of first-degree murder. According to neighbors, Johnson had a baby with McMillan and was seen leaving the scene with the child after the shooting. He reportedly went to another apartment and asked neighbors to call 911, admitting to the crime by stating, "I shot both of them."
Three children, aged 8, 4, and 2, were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting but were not physically harmed. The children were believed to belong to Underwood.
