Bias Easley, a 27-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on June 5, 2014, at an apartment complex in Charlotte, North Carolina. Easley, who served as a correctional officer at the Lanesboro Correctional Institution, was found in the walkway of the High Meadow Condominiums on Farmhurst Drive. The incident was not related to his job but stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Easley and one of the suspects.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police obtained murder warrants
for the arrest of Raphael White, 30, and Trevor White, 28, in connection with Easley's killing. Both suspects were convicted felons, with Raphael White having served time in Brown Creek Correctional Facility. The investigation revealed that the murder was the result of an argument between Easley and one of the suspects.
Raphael White turned himself in to Mecklenburg County sheriff's deputies on August 17, 2014, and was charged with murder. Trevor White surrendered to police in mid-July and was charged with accessory after the fact. The police continued to investigate the case, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses at the scene. Easley's family and the authorities were determined to get to the bottom of the incident and bring justice to the victim.
Bias Easley's untimely death left a significant impact on his family, friends, and the community. He was remembered as a mild-mannered, caring, and compassionate individual who never met a stranger. Easley is survived by his children, Tobias Easley, Anias Easley, and Miekael, as well as his brothers and a host of relatives and friends. His funeral services were held at Long and Son Funeral Home in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 14, 2014.
