Kevin Christopher Millner, a 32-year-old African American male, was found dead in his locked vehicle in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express at 4305 Big Tree Way near Wendover Avenue in Greensboro, NC, on September 2, 2014. The State Medical Examiner determined that Millner died from a gunshot wound. His body was discovered by a passerby at around 1:15 p.m. that day.
The police believe that robbery was the motive behind the incident.
In the days following the discovery of Millner's body, several arrests were made in connection with his death. Montray Deboris Price, a 21-year-old African American male from Greensboro, was arrested on September 17, 2014, and charged with first-degree murder. Price was taken into custody without incident at his home and held without bond in the Guilford County Jail. The police believe that Price did not act alone in the shooting and continued their investigation to identify other suspects involved in the crime.
On September 22, 2014, two more men were arrested in connection with Millner's death. Craig Deonte Hairston, a 25-year-old African American male, and Colby Wade Watkins, a 29-year-old African American male, both from Danville, were charged with first-degree murder and felony conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Both suspects were already in jails in Danville and South Carolina on unrelated charges. The police sought extradition for Hairston and Watkins to face charges in Greensboro.
The investigation into Millner's death revealed that the suspects had planned to rob him, leading to the fatal shooting. The police continued to gather evidence and interview witnesses to build a strong case against the accused. The arrests and charges brought some measure of justice for Millner's family, but the tragic loss of his life left a lasting impact on the community.
