On the frigid night of November 8, 2013, a violent tragedy unfolded within a multi-unit home on the west side of Detroit, Michigan. The residence, located in the 3000 block of West Philadelphia Street near the intersection of Joy Road and Linwood, became the site of a triple homicide that claimed the lives of three individuals. Among the victims was 32-year-old African American male Damon Gibson, who was identified as the tenant of the apartment where the shooting took place. He was known to friends and family by the nickname "JJ" and was the father of a young son.
Detroit police officers were dispatched to the scene around 1:00 a.m. following a 911 call reporting gunfire. Upon entering the four-flat apartment building, investigators discovered a harrowing scene in the dining room. Damon Gibson was found deceased alongside two other victims: 35-year-old Quentin Cason, known as "Q," and 22-year-old Demetria Mosley, a young mother who went by the nickname "Poo-Poo." All three had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The chaotic aftermath drew dozens of grief-stricken family members and neighbors to the street outside, where they waited for answers while police cordoned off the area with yellow crime scene tape.
Detectives examining the apartment found no signs of forced entry, leading to the theory that the victims may have known their assailant or let them inside voluntarily. Police sources at the time indicated that the shooting might have been drug-related, noting that the perpetrators reportedly fled the scene with approximately $200 in cash. Despite the presence of potential evidence and the community's shock, the investigation faced significant hurdles. In the months following the incident, Crime Stoppers issued appeals for information, listing the case as an unsolved homicide. As of mid-2014, no suspects had been publicly identified, and no arrests had been made in connection with the deaths of Gibson, Cason, and Mosley, leaving the case cold and the families without closure.
