Jennifer Evans Lilly, a 38-year-old woman from Vanceboro, NC, tragically lost her life on March 16, 2015. Jennifer, who was born into a military family and had resided in the Vanceboro community for the past 15 years, was known for her love of photography and her dedication to her children. On the day of her death, Jennifer was shot by her husband, Van Lilly, in front of their two children, Trent Evans, 11, and Bella Evans, 12.
The incident occurred at their home on Campbell Road in Vanceboro during a domestic dispute.
Van Lilly, who had recently undergone surgery, fled into the woods after the shooting but was apprehended by deputies following a manhunt. He was charged with an open count of murder and taken into custody. The Craven County Sheriff's Office had previously responded to domestic situations at the Lilly residence. Van Lilly's first court appearance was scheduled for March 18, 2015.
The tragic event left the community in shock, and Jennifer's family and friends mourned her loss. Jennifer was remembered as a devoted mother who loved her children deeply. The family received support from the community as they navigated the difficult aftermath of her death.
