Kevin Antonio Calderon Rodas, a 7-year-old boy, tragically lost his life on September 5, 2015, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kevin, who was of Hispanic descent, was attending a children's birthday party at Fieldvale Place when the incident occurred. The children were outside breaking a piñata and gathering candy when gunfire erupted from across the street. Kevin was struck by the bullets and was later pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center.
Two adult men and a 5-year-old girl were also injured in the shooting, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
The investigation into Kevin's death has been ongoing, with authorities seeking information to identify and apprehend the shooter. Despite the efforts of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with Kevin's murder. In 2019, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Kevin's death.
The community has been deeply affected by this senseless act of violence, and Kevin's family continues to seek justice for their beloved son. The case remains unsolved, and the search for the perpetrator continues.
