Marcus Laverne Murchison, a 35-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on September 23, 2015, in Sanford, North Carolina. The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. at a residence on Beulah Brown Road. According to reports, Murchison was shot by a 16-year-old suspect named Taveun Dayquan Davis. Murchison succumbed to his injuries early the following day at UNC Hospitals.
The investigation revealed that Davis attempted to rob Murchison before shooting him.
Heather Shontell Lindsey, Murchison's girlfriend, was present during the incident and reported that Davis also fired shots at her, although she was not injured. Davis was subsequently charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He surrendered to the Lee County Sheriff's Office on October 20, 2015, and was held without bond at the Lee County Jail.
