Meghann Rae Stubbs, a 33-year-old woman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, tragically lost her life on June 17, 2016. Meghann, along with her boyfriend, Steven Richard Salsman, 37, was fatally shot outside their home at 2431 Stockton Street. The incident occurred during a heated altercation with their neighbor, Zachary Wilson Hobbs, who had recently moved into the adjacent house at 2427 Stockton Street.
The dispute between the neighbors had been ongoing since Hobbs' arrival in the
neighborhood. On the night of the incident, a verbal argument escalated, leading to Hobbs opening fire with a semiautomatic handgun. Meghann Rae Stubbs was struck multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Steven Richard Salsman also succumbed to his injuries, while a third victim, who was inadvertently struck, survived and was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Zachary Wilson Hobbs, 32 at the time, was arrested and charged with the murders of Meghann Rae Stubbs and Steven Richard Salsman. He was held in the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond. The case went to trial, and in December 2017, Hobbs was sentenced to serve between 25 and 31 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder. The judge described the incident as tragic and senseless, highlighting the profound impact on the victims' families.
