Bobby Lee Sessoms, a 44-year-old male from Clarkton, North Carolina, was tragically murdered on September 24, 2016. Sessoms was found dead from gunshot wounds inside the home of Steven Craig Long in Lake Waccamaw. The Columbus County Sheriff's Office received a call around 7:30 p.m. and upon arrival, discovered Sessoms deceased inside the residence.

Steven Craig Long, the owner of the home where Sessoms was found, was charged with murder and held at the Columbus County Detention Center in Whiteville. The investigation revealed that Sessoms had an argument with Rachel Davis about a car promised to him by her ex-husband. During the argument, Sessoms slapped the table, which led Long to leave the kitchen for a few minutes before returning with a pistol. Long then shot Sessoms, resulting in his death.
