On July 6, 2014, violence struck the west side of Detroit, Michigan, claiming the life of 25-year-old Daric Tompkins, an African American male who was discovered at a commercial property on West McNichols Road. The incident occurred at the address 21350 West McNichols, which corresponds to the location of the Riviera Motel, a site situated near the intersection of Lahser Road.
