Dwight Lee Almond, a 62-year-old man from Albemarle, NC, tragically passed away on April 27, 2018. He was killed by a stray bullet from target shooters while sitting in his garage in the Millingport community. The incident sparked a significant public outcry and led to a proposed gun ordinance aimed at preventing similar tragedies in the future. The ordinance, however, failed to pass the Stanly County Board of Commissioners by a narrow margin.
